The Making of B.M.F (Blowin’ Money Fast)
The ‘Magnum Opus’ feature by Complex takes a look at the making of some of the most influential Rap songs throughout the game’s history. In the latest edition, the breakout track “Blowin’ Money Fast” by Rick Ross and Lex Luger is in the spotlight.
The song came out in 2010. Before then Rozay’s career was already bubblin with the joints Hustlin and Boss with T-Pain. They were acclaimed hits, but for many, people were waiting to see if Ross would be able to continue knocking out smashes or if he was just going to be another one of Rap’s flash in the pan. Blowing Money Fast answered that question.
The hit came about largely due to Lex Luger’s signature sound that was just catching on at the time. It was a new vibe in Rap and ultimately part of the birth of this era in Trap music. Rozay’s head A&R ‘Spiff‘ recognized that Lex’s production was the sound of this generation especially in the streets. It was him that brought the beat to Ross, and it didn’t take long before the historic verses were laid down. With the addition of Styles P to track, the song was solidified as real moment in Hip Hop
The song was released on Ross’ Albert Anastasia EP, and soon after became the second single off his fourth studio album, Teflon Don.
